National Programme for Radiation Oncology Facilities at St. James’s and Beaumont Hospitals.

Horganlynch provided civil and structural engineering services to the design-build team headed by BAM Contracting for the planning, detailed design and construction of two radiotherapy facilities for the National Programme for Radiation Oncology at St. James’s and Beaumont Hospitals in Dublin in 2010. Each facility had four linear accelerator bunkers together with ancillary brachyherapy and allied services and formed a key part of the Irish Government’s strategy to develop centres of excellence for cancer treatment.

The St. James’s facility also has an underground car park which was constructed on an extremely tight site surrounded by an operating hospital. We worked with BAM on this site with the exemplar design to arrive at a cost effective basement construction utilising a contiguous pile wall system.
