Project – Cork City Courthouse
Location – Cork City
Client – Cork City Council, Cork
Architect – Michael Russell, Cork City Council Architects Department.
Role/Service – Civil & Structural, Structural Conservation Engineering, Resident Engineer Construction Monitoring.

Extensive refurbishment to habitable standard to provide office accommodation an additional court facilities. Works included reduction of floor levels below street level, waterproofing and prisoner transfer tunnel. Major interventions including glass concourse flooring, glazed atrium. Extensive excavation and exposure of foundations under archaeological supervision included exposure of early Cork city walls and original early Cork City Courthouse timber piled foundations of the 1840’s. Remedial works to roof, introduction of lift shafts, analysis & strengthening of timber floors.
